I bought a new 2019 SXT two weeks ago. About 50% of the time, it makes a clunk in the engine when starting. While it was in the shop getting stripes installed, I drove another brand new 2019 SXT as a loaner and it made the same clunk about 50% of the time when starting. Incidentally, it does start just fine.
I've got some trouble with a hollow clunking sound, it seems to make itself known when I'm either easing off or pushing on the accelerator, almost always when reversing, always when turning the car off and sometimes when idling (regardless of clutch being in or out, breaks on or off, but eases off if I rev it a hair past 1k rpm in neutral)
The clutch in those drives is supposed to make a clunk sound when it is put into gear. It is just the gears engaging. If you shift slowly with those drives the gear teeth can make a chattering sound which is the two sets of gear teeth just barely touching each other and bouncing off each other. Try shifting it into gear quickly.

While driving 25 mph, a loud noise was heard coming from the front of the vehicle and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. One more question, does it sound as if the starter motor is just spinning at first and then "catching"? This is when you would hear the clunk if that was the case. If it sounds like it is doing that, most likely your one-way clutch for the starter needs springs and rollers. An engine removal type of job.
